CALGARY — With weather forecasters predicting the coldest Calgary winter in 10 years…
The forthcoming winter, expected to be influenced by La Nina, could to be a brutal one.
A report released Monday by Pennsylvania-based AccuWeather.com is the latest weather model forecasting a long, frigid winter for Western Canada.
In Calgary, the La Nina phenomenon of cool eastern Pacific sea surface temperatures is setting up the city for a particularly cold winter, said senior meteorologist Brett Anderson.
We’re pretty confident much of Western Canada is going to be unusually cold this winter,” Anderson said. “I think I could say this winter could be the coldest winter in the past 10 years in Calgary.
Environment Canada has also forecast a blustery winter in its long-term predictions for the city.
On Monday, Anderson said Calgary is likely to see regular arctic fronts settling over the city, bringing snowfalls in their wake.
I think we’re going to see a lot of those arctic fronts coming through, where it’s nice one minute, then starts snowing heavily for a few hours and temperatures drop like a rock.
